Project: Website Redesign
The Oregon Health Equity Alliance (OHEA) is a collective effort of regional and state partners who seek to make Oregon a more equitable place for all. The coalition educates, organizes, and advocates for community-driven solutions to improve the health and wellbeing of every Oregonian.
In April 2018, OHEA hired its first director, Dr. Zeenia Junkeer. She quickly focused on updating the organization’s communications tools and reached out to me after being referred by Community Powered Change. Her first priority was a website redesign. At the time, the site was a text-heavy WordPress blog without cohesive branding or clear navigation. OHEA wanted visitors to better understand their work and be able to access curated health equity resources. I was asked to design a website that would serve as an accessible platform to share OHEA’s story with the community, including legislators, health care organizations, and policy advocates.
In our discovery work, I heard from Dr. Junkeer that OHEA wanted a website that evoked the bold, community-focused work of their organization. With that in mind, I suggested a color palette, fonts, and images that would create a strong visual identity for OHEA and that could be used across their communications. I incorporated these elements into a Squarespace website featuring freshly updated information, relevant research and reports, and a clear call to action for visitors. The site’s streamlined navigation highlights the organization’s commitment to community input and leadership while emphasizing opportunities to get involved with OHEA. I also custom coded a timeline of OHEA’s history, featuring important milestones and successes. The finished site beautifully illustrates the work and accomplishments of this diverse, dynamic coalition.
